PURPOSE AND PHILOSOPHY

The cheerleaders at FCHS are expected to provide support for and maintain interest in the Fayette County High School Athletic programs.  They are expected to cooperate with each other, the coaches, the school population, and the community at large.  A cheerleader must set an appropriate example for others by obeying school rules, GHSA rules, and the rules of their parents and guardian.  The cheerleader must be aware that they are a representative of the school and have a responsibility to it.  Cheerleaders need to be aware that they wear the uniform at all times on an off school grounds and are expected to act appropriately at all times.

The cheerleader's main purpose is to create an atmosphere of enthusiasm, thereby increasing attendance at athletic events.

GENERAL HEALTH CONDITIONS AND SAFETY

Cheerleading is potentially a dangerous sport where catastrophic injury, paralyses , or even death could take places.  Safety is taken most seriously.  Mats will always be used when practicing a new stunt.  A progression of stunt will be used to ensure safety.

In becoming a participant in this program, a cheerleader voluntarily assumes the risk involved by participating in cheerleading practices, games, and other activities.

Safety and spotting is imperative.

Cheerleaders are advised to stay healthy and fit to prevent injury.

TRYOUTS FOR THE 2008 - 2009 SCHOOL YEAR

March 24th-April 3rd

The days prior to the actual tryout performance April 3rd are teaching/observation days, and they will be used for the selection process along with a score generated at the performance.

There is no tenure for cheerleaders.

Their performance will consist of jumps (toe touch and choice of jump sequence), a cheer, a dance, stunting, standing tumbling, and running tumbling.

The coaching staff will judge and select the teams.

Prospective Cheerleaders will tryout in a group of 4.  We will be selecting the groups.  Teamwork is a necessity.  There will be an opportunity to choose a group for an elite stunt or stunt sequence.

The teams will be posted Friday night on the bus loop doors of the high school.  They will also be available on-line at www.fayettevilleintermediate.org on Coach Moore's teacher website.

There will be one team chosen for the basketball season.

As coaches, we are looking at prospective cheerleaders' Attendance, Enthusiasm, Attitude, Behavior, Appearance, Preparedness, Voice, Motions, Cheer, Tumbling, Dance Technique, and Jumps.

ATTENDANCE

Cheerleaders must be in attendance at ALL games, practices, competitions, fundraisers, summer camp, and other related events unless otherwise arranged with the coaching staff.

Unexcused absences from practice or games will result in sitting during fames and/or dismissal from the team.

Injured cheer athletes are expected to attend practices and games at the sidelines.  If injured, a doctor's note needs to be handed in clearing the cheerleader to participate again.

If you are going to miss practice or a game, you need to contact once of the coaches.  At the beginning of the season, all numbers and points of contact will be distributed.
